About Celerum

Research algorithms, applied to the working day.

Celerum builds planning software for companies that run trucks, trailers and light goods vehicles. The maths came out of a research group in Aberdeen; the product is judged on whether the day's work gets planned faster and run with fewer empty miles.

Our story

Celerum was founded in 2013 to develop and commercialise the work of Professor John McCall, Head of the School of Computing, Science and Digital Media at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Professor McCall has more than 25 years' research experience in nature-inspired computing, and has undertaken many projects demonstrating the validity of Celerum's approach to the technology. They include a knowledge transfer partnership backed by Innovate UK with one of Scotland's biggest privately-owned hauliers, ARR Craib, to maximise vehicle use and effectiveness.

To date his research group at RGU has attracted 23 grants totalling more than £2.3 million, including nearly £1 million from six Innovate UK grants.

Nature-inspired computing. Celerum's software is built from AI algorithms based on Nature Inspired Computing (NIC) — search and optimisation methods modelled on how natural systems find good solutions to hard problems. Read how it works, or see why it suits transport planning.

Meet the team

A small team that has spent years either in transport operations or in software for them. The same people run the platform, the onboarding and the support calls.
